Story

Hey everyone,
This year, cancer took my best friend.

Early last year, my friend shared with me her diagnosis. She was handed the challenge to fight B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. A diagnosis that does not have a great survival rate in adults. On top of that, she had a subtype of b-cell lymphoma known as 'double hit'. It was an aggressive cancer, to which she fought HARD till the very end.

The reason this is so hard to share is not only the pain of loss, but due to her private nature. She doesn't want people to remember her as the girl with cancer, but instead for the great legacy she created. Her name is Sarah.

1. She started her own business, which was INCREDIBLY successful.

2. She was ACING university, for real. Her GPA was insane.

3. She was putting her body first, looking after herself and living out her passions.

4. Despite her passing, QUT recognised for contributions, and awarded a graduate certificate in her name, and will ensure her name lives on.

5. She was an all round AMAZING person, was a great friend, and was really good at giving gifts... giving gifts was her love language.

By talking about her and sharing her story, it ensures her legacy lives on. I love her and miss her so much everyday. One thing that really stood out was her humble and considerate nature, which led her to care an insane amount for the people around her. When she shared her diagnosis with me, she asked me if I was okay. She constantly made sure I was okay, and that I wasn't struggling, despite the fact that she was the one facing it all.

I have decided to share her story, whilst still retaining some of her privacy. will be attempting a 10km run (good luck to me lol). My charity of choice is the Australasian Leukaemia & Lymphoma Group - ALLG. This charity works to help people who fight blood cancers such as hers. It's Australia and New Zealand's only not-for-profit blood cancer clinical trial research group. I ask, if any of you can, please donate and/or share my fundraiser. Or, just educate yourself.

Unfortunately, she's not the only one with stories like this. Too many people lose their lives each and every year to aggressive cancers such as hers.
This year I am making a difference by participating in Bridge to Brisbane and running for a cause that is close to my heart (despite my hatred for running). You can support my efforts and help me reach my fundraising goal by making a secure online donation. After donating you can even leave a message of support on my page – it would be great to read these. Alternatively, you can share my fundraiser, or even educate yourself! There are endless types of cancer that are worth understanding and fighting against.

Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly through to my charity of choice.

Thank you so much for your support. Let's stand up and fight against cancer, together!

Australasian Leukaemia & Lymphoma Group (ALLG)

The ALLG is the only not-for-profit collaborative clinical research group in Australia and New Zealand dedicated to finding new ways to treat blood cancers such as leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and other blood disorders.

By conducting national and international collaborative clinical trials at sites across Australia and New Zealand, ALLG researchers are helping patients access new drugs or receive new treatments that are not yet available for clinical practice.

Helping us to fund more quality clinical trials means you will be helping to advance medical knowledge and improve the treatment, care and quality of life for cancer patients. Visit www.allg.org.au to find out more about the impact of your donation.
